SECOND RUSSIAN FESTIVAL OF PICTORIAL PHOTOGRAPHY
dedicated to the 115th anniversary of the Russian Photographer N. P.Andreev
October 1st to 2nd, 1997, Serpukhov
The aim of the festival is to discuss the problems of Russian Pictorialism. For this purpose we are going to bring together the past and present of this movement which has never been done before. Both personal and collective exhibitions will be presented. We also intend to show separately photographers who have used soft focus and ones who have manipulated the printing process.
From the photographers of the early 20th century we are representing both the personalities of N. Andreev who preferred soft focus and S. Lobovikov who preferred to manipulate the printing process as well as large part of the collection of M. Golosovsky giving the full view of the pursuit in the early 20th century. Contemporary pictorialism is presented by such photographers as A. Erin, G. Kolosov (Moscow), L.Tobolina, E. Skibitskaya (S.-Petersburg) who only use soft focus, E. Golitsina (Moscow) and V. Briliakov (S.-Petersburg) - the highly original exponents of those who experiment with the printing process.
The collective exhibition will show the entire range of modern pictorial photography. With the permission of the collection owners, the exhibitions held during the festival can be shown in any exhibition hall in Russia and abroad. We also plan to publish a catalogue and organize a seminar held by historians, art-critics and some celebrated photographers without reference to the movement they belong to.
